清唱劇《彌賽亞》之哈裡路亞 這一清唱劇作于1741年9月，作曲家亨德爾在一種不可遏止的熱情沖動下，隻用了二十多天就寫出了這部注定要成為經典之作的清唱劇《彌賽亞》。這部作品曾是作者“流着眼淚寫作”而成的，同樣也打動了1743年在倫敦音樂廳觀看首演時的所有聽衆，甚至英王喬治二世在聽完第二幕終曲《哈裡路亞》這一合唱後，起立以示敬意。這一舉動竟形成了傳統，直到今天，人們在現場欣賞合唱《哈裡路亞》時，都必須全體起立以示敬意。

“彌賽亞”一詞源于希伯萊語，意為“受膏者”（古猶太人封立君王、祭祀時，常舉行在受封者頭上敷膏油的儀式）。後被基督教用于對救世主耶稣的稱呼。全劇分三部分，共有序曲、詠歎調、重唱、合唱、間奏等57首分曲。第一部分叙述聖嬰耶稣的誕生；第二部分是關于耶稣為拯救人類，四處傳播福音以及受難而被釘死于十字架上的經曆；第三部分則是耶稣顯聖複活的故事和贊美詩。這是亨德爾少數完全表現宗教内容的作品中最出色的一部，實際上其中對音樂的戲劇性和人性的宣傳遠勝于對宗教的虔誠感情。
全劇為主調和聲音樂風格，以旋律優美、和聲洗練見長。西西裡民間樂器風笛的使用在當時是大膽而新穎的。由于其中不少分曲具有很高的技術訓練價值和藝術性，至今仍在音樂會和聲學教學中被廣泛采用。
整個作品經典叠出，美不勝收。其中“哈裡路亞”一段，則更是以其震撼的氣勢，洗練而悠長的旋律，以及教堂聖歌的莊重典雅，而成為傳世佳作。
