4NB的早期音樂風格基本上都是狂躁的punk樂，Wanda擊打出硬核朋克的鼓聲，Linda爆炸般的嗓音，Christa的貝司始終來回于硬核和瘋克之間，而Shaunna的3和弦吉他技術構築了整個4NB早期的主要音樂風格，随着樂隊演出機會的增加，他們的名聲也越來越響亮。但随之而來的批評也越來越多，樂隊似乎要用更大的噪音去抵抗一些刺耳的噓聲和惡意的诋毀。“在當時，并不是有現在這麼多的女性活躍在搖滾舞台上，因此我們受到了許多其他樂隊或俱樂部裡的各類人等的嘲笑和諷刺。這促使我們更努力地投入到音樂中，我們每周都有那麼四、五天每天重複聽3、4個小時的音樂，當某人想說些屁話來譏笑我們時，我們就會在舞台上愉快地用音樂去還擊他。我已經彈了15年琴了，所以我們樂隊裡每一個人都對自己的音樂技術和水平充滿了自信。”

在早期的樂隊詞曲創作中，幾乎都是由Shaunna Hall一人包辦，也許隻有樂隊創作的第一首歌“Whole lotta love”例外。但在不久後，Linda開始成為樂隊詞曲創作的核心，Wanda和Christa一般喜歡在排練前彈彈groove來熱身。有時他們這些即興彈奏的片段就成了樂隊的歌曲。然後由Linda配好詞，如歌曲“Old Mr Heffer”“No place like home”就是這樣創作出來的。Linda有時也和Shaunna共同創作一些歌曲，但通常她喜歡獨自一人冥思苦想。每當創作出一些新的音樂作品時，他們都會把它立刻放在晚上的演出裡。但有時4NB會很玩笑地把剛學會的一首歌加入到演出節目中，由于此時4NB樂隊并不能靠俱樂部演出來維持生活，他們四人白天都需要工作，而Linda是樂隊裡第一個辭退餐館的女招待工作而專心投入到音樂中來的，因為她對每日清晨萦繞在耳邊的鈴聲和嘈雜的工作厭倦透了。不久，Charista也辭去了他的固定工作，他已經在白日會計師夜裡音樂家的角色變換中持續了十年了。四人陸續都辭去自己的工作，開始從當初業餘心态去玩音樂中轉變為以此為職業的專業态度。但他們的音樂之旅并不順利，錄制的小樣并未得到唱片公司的垂青，在經濟上陷入了窘迫之境，他們不久就負債累累，這幾乎也是許多搖滾樂隊成立之初的慣例。
