在2013年9月3日，Gaga在Twitter上面發起兩個投票，讓小怪獸（粉絲）決定《ARTPOP》的第二支單曲。第一個投票提供《Manicure》和《Sexxx Dreams》兩個選擇，而第二個投票則提供了《Aura》和《Swine》兩個選擇。（但最終這四首曲目都未被用作二單）。
在2013年9月20日，Gaga發推稱專輯第二支單曲将于專輯《ARTPOP》發行之前發行。她補充說：“對于第二支單曲，有很多的選擇，我想選擇一首完全代表我的歌曲！對我來說這就是選出最佳的歌曲（同時），有一種可能就是你還沒聽到過第二支單曲。2013年10月10日，Gaga在Twitter上宣布《Venus》為專輯《ARTPOP》第二支單曲，于2013年10月27日發布。25日官方将放出歌曲片段以供試聽。
10月13日，Gaga在Twitter上透露正在拍攝《Venus》的音樂錄像帶，由露絲·霍格本（Ruth Hogben）導演。之後因原定宣傳單曲《Do What U Want》獲得意想不到的商業成功，《Venus》被改為專輯首支宣傳單曲，《Do What U Want》最終成為第二支單曲。
在2013年10月25日，Gaga發布了歌曲的三張單曲封面，都由攝影師Steven Klein拍攝。
