劇情
影片改編自18世紀歌德的一首德語詩歌，利用一個诙諧的寓言性質的故事貫穿整部影片。
《聖誕老人的學徒》是一部發生在現代紐約的真人奇幻童話，将圍繞一個魔法師和他不聽話的學徒展開。這個魔法師正準備訓練他的學徒，以幫助他對抗邪惡黑勢力。在當代的美國紐約的曼哈頓街區裡隐居着一位魔法巫師巴爾薩澤・布萊克（尼古拉斯・凱奇飾），他和魔法師女友維羅妮卡（莫妮卡・貝魯奇飾）一直與自己的宿敵馬克西姆・霍瓦斯（阿爾弗雷德・莫裡納飾）在紐約的街頭巷尾裡對抗着。許多年來一直未分勝負，但是由于馬克西姆憑借黑暗力量日益強大，巴爾薩澤深感自己不再是他的對手，因此他決定要訓練魔法師的學徒來繼承自己的衣缽，可被他寄予厚望的新徒弟戴夫・斯特特勒（傑伊・巴魯切爾飾）怎麼看都不是這塊料，他整天想着的不是魔法，而是心儀的女生貝蒂（泰莉莎・帕爾墨飾）。于是，為了将他訓練成可以與黑暗勢力對抗的魔法巫師，巴爾薩澤開始了一系列可以調動戴夫生存勇氣的訓練計劃……
